What is Retouching? Before and Afters {Chandler Senior Photographer}

Did you know every image you order with me is retouched?

Sometimes, when it comes to photography, you’ll hear the words “edited” and “retouched” used interchangeably.  But there is difference in the two.  An edited image is one that has been changed.  This could include: cropping, color adjusting, white balancing, vignetting, etc.  A retouched image goes beyond editing and creates a flawless and beautiful image.  Did you know every image you order with me is retouched?  It’s something I am proud to offer my clients- and one of the things that sets your experience with Stacey Poterson Photography above the rest.

So what exactly is retouching, you may ask?  Retouching is a detailed process I go through to enhance every image you order.  I am very careful to not over-do it, and I make sure you will look naturally beautiful.  I will remove blemishes, take away under eye darkness, enhance the eyes, and soften the skin.  I take away things that us girls usually try to minimize with makeup, and I enhance the things we typically try to make stand out.

There is one thing I will not do when it comes to retouching, and that is changing YOU.  What I mean by changing YOU is I will not change the body, face or eye shape.  I will not take away something that is supposed to be there.  If you have one eye that is a little squinter than the other, then so be it-because that’s YOU!  Embrace it!  I will not change the little quirks that are YOU.
One time I came across a “before and after retouching” image and the editor drastically changed the models appearance to fit into the fashion industry’s definition of beauty.  I was sad to see that.  But I know every single one of my clients are exquisite and they are beautiful in their own way.  I will not change them to fit the standard of beauty that the fashion world is telling girls they need to be.  So rest assured, when I am done retouching your image, it will still look like YOU.

The fact that I retouch your images also means you can rest easy and not worry about pesky zits popping up.  If you’re anything like me, it always seems inevitable that I would break out the day before I was going to have my picture taken…so frustrating.  So, if that ends up being the case for you-don’t worry!  I can make that zit disappear!
